Birth-to-Three

Certain children are identified at birth as having disabilities. The state has established an Agency named Child and Family Connections, which assists families in securing itinerant services (e.g. speech therapy, occupational therapy) for children identified at this age.

The District is responsible for transitioning children at age 3 to the District 109 Early Childhood Program. At the age of 2 1/2, Child and Family Connections notifies District 109 of a child in need of transition. The District has up to 6 months to complete any additional evaluations the team recommends and then meet with parents to discuss whether continuing intervention is needed. A variety of options may be discussed with parents. Please contact Jen Grady, Early Childhood School Psychologist, at 847-945-5895 x2133 or jgrady@dps109.org with any questions.

If your child is younger than 2 years 9 months, and showing delays, we recommend contacting Child and Family Connections, Lake County's Early Intervention program. Early intervention is a system of services that helps babies and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities. Check out the pdf below (click to download) for more information about age-appropriate developmental milestones up to age 30 months.
